Jason P. Andris JASON P. ANDRIS
joined Venture Investment Associates in 2000 and is a Managing Director and Managing Member of the VIA General Partners. He is a member of the Firm’s Investment Committee and has responsibility across all facets of the Firm, including, the management of relationships with the funds’ managers and its limited partners, as well as the identification and development of new relationships for the Firm. Presently, he represents the Firm on over half a dozen advisory boards.

Previously, Jason was an Analyst in the investment banking group at Robertson Stephens and Co. (“RS&Co.”) and subsequently was promoted to Associate. He was involved in all aspects of corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions transactions working with many emerging growth companies and completing over a dozen transactions including the execution of two private placements, with aggregate value totaling over $1.4 billion. Following his time at RS&Co., he served as Manager of Financial Analysis and Planning with one of his investment banking clients, Global Vacation Group, Inc. (NYSE: GVG, “GVG”), a consolidator of value-added travel services companies. With GVG, he participated in the acquisition and integration of nine businesses, as well as two equity offerings, and oversaw treasury investments, a share-repurchase program, and investor relations. His responsibilities also included reporting directly to the CEO and CFO of the company, assisting them with general management responsibilities.

Jason received an A.B. in history with a minor in economics from Hamilton College, where he was elected to Phi Alpha Theta history honor society. He received his M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. While at Tuck, he worked with the Center for Private Equity in performing a survey and analysis of valuation practices in the private equity industry. Separately, he researched the impact of secondary offerings and the end of insiders’ lockup periods on companies’ stock prices.

Jason serves on the board of trustees of the Land Conservancy of New Jersey, the Lamington Conservancy, and the Willowwood Foundation. He has held various positions with these non-profits, including Vice Chair and Treasurer. He also serves on the investment committee of the Peck School.

He represents VIA on over half a dozen advisory boards. He established and leads the Firm’s Palo Alto office.

Prior to joining VIA, he spent seven years co-heading the private equity program at The Investment Fund For Foundations (TIFF). In this role, he was responsible for over $1 billion in new capital commitments. Chris represented TIFF on VC and LBO partnership advisory boards. Prior to joining TIFF, Chris worked on Princeton University’s endowment team, where his duties included selection and evaluation of external managers, risk analysis, and asset allocation modeling. Previously, he was a strategy consultant at Monitor Company working with clients in the financial services, healthcare, and telecom sectors and as an analyst for Monitor’s principal investing activities.

Chris authors a blog,, which explores investment topic, including private equity. He has been profiled in Venture Capital Journal and Private Equity Analyst and regularly speaks at industry conferences and business schools. Chris earned his B.A. with Distinction in history from Yale College in 1994 and an M.B.A. from Yale School of Management in 2001. He was awarded the CFA Charter in 2004. He currently serves on the Board of the Palo Alto Community Fund and sits on the investment committee of the Castilleja School.

Adrian Garcia A. ADRIAN GARCIA
is a Managing Director having joined VIA in 2013.  He serves on the Fund’s Investment Committee and has responsibilities which include working with the Firm’s managers and its limited partners, the identification and development of new relationships as well as, performing due diligence on co-investment opportunities in the energy space. He established and leads the Firm’s Houston office.

Adrian previously worked at Quantum Energy Partners, an energy-focused private equity firm in Houston, and was involved in Quantum’s investment activities including portfolio company due diligence, monitoring, and transaction structuring and execution. He also worked closely with Quantum’s portfolio companies providing acquisition and divestiture advice and executing commodity hedges. Prior to joining Quantum, Adrian was a Managing Director at Newlin Capital Partners, an institutional manager of funds-of-funds with $330 million across four partnerships focused on real assets. At Newlin, Adrian focused on the identification, screening, and assessment of energy and real estate private equity fund managers as well as managing relationships with the firm’s limited partners.

Prior to Newlin, Adrian worked as an endowment and foundation investment strategist for SEI Investments and as a Principal for Partners Capital where he conducted due diligence on private equity and hedge fund managers. Before beginning his investment career, Adrian spent fourteen years working in the petroleum, chemical, and nuclear industries worldwide, including five years with Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia. Adrian has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University and an M.S.E in Financial Engineering from Princeton University.

Clifford J. P. Gilman CLIFFORD J. P. GILMAN
joined VIA in 2008 and is a Managing Director and serves as the Firm’s Chief Compliance Officer. He has responsibilities across all elements of VIA’s activities and is a member of the Firm’s Investment Committee. He works with existing and new relationships, among VIA’s managers and limited partners.

Most recently, Cliff was with Prime Buchholz & Associates, Inc., a full-service investment consulting firm serving approximately 300 institutional clients, predominately endowments and foundations, with over $30 billion under advisement across all asset classes. He had sole responsibility for the firm’s private equity investing, as well as private real asset investing (real estate, energy, other natural resources, and commodities), through direct funds, secondaries, and funds of funds. Included in his responsibilities were educating clients and consultants on the merits of and building portfolios of private capital. Prior to that, he was an Associate Vice President and founding member of Merrill Lynch Private Equity Partners, LP, a global investor in funds, secondary, and direct private equity positions. In that role, he sourced transactions, conducted due diligence, participated in the investment review process and monitoring of over $350 million in direct and fund investments.

Cliff received his A.B. from Duke University majoring in political science, Russian, and Comparative Area Studies, in which he completed an honors thesis, and was a recipient of the Benjamin N. Duke Leadership Award. He also has an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

He serves on the board and finance and investment committee of the Bonnie Brae School.

Prior to founding Venture Investment Associates in 1993, Mr. Andris was with the American Express Company for twenty-one years. From 1981 to 1993 he served as Vice President-Investments, where he was also responsible for the management of AVA Partners, the private equity arm of the company. AVA Partners invested in partnerships and made direct private equity investments. VIA I was organized in 1993 for the purpose of acquiring AVA Partners from American Express. Stathis also was President of Rexport, Inc. and AVA Company, two investment subsidiaries of American Express.

During his investment career at American Express, Mr. Andris was also responsible for the management of short-term investments, which amounted to several billion dollars, and $2.8 billion in government securities for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, when it was a subsidiary of American Express. Earlier, he also held various senior management positions in the Office of the Chairman, Travel Division, and the Corporate Development Office.

Before joining American Express, Mr. Andris was a financial consultant with the Irving Trust Company and held chemical engineering positions with Esso Research & Engineering and UniRoyal Companies.

Currently, Mr. Andris serves on the board of advisors of several private equity funds. He received a B.S.Ch.E. degree from Northeastern University, an M.S.Ch.E. degree from Columbia University, where he was elected to Sigma Xi honorary society, and an M.B.A. degree from the Wharton School.

Mr. Andris is a trustee of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, the Lamington Conservancy, and the Willowwood Foundation and a former trustee of the Peck School and the Upper Raritan Watershed Association.

is the Firm’s Controller and a Certified Public Accountant, with over thirty-five years of experience with both public and private companies. Jessica began her career with Coopers & Lybrand, spending five years specializing in the financial and tax needs of entrepreneurial businesses. She subsequently worked for ten years as controller for two closely held businesses. She joined VIA in 1994 initially working independently as a tax and systems consultant, and then as controller until 2001. Prior to rejoining the General Partner in 2006, she served as controller for the Diamond Foundation and for a hedge fund.
Jessica has a B.A. in economics, an MBA in accounting, and an Advanced Professional Certificate in Information Systems, all from New York University.
joined VIA in 2007 as a Manager of Finance and is a member of the finance and accounting team, contributing at various levels to the firm’s accounting needs.  Previously, Chris worked as a Senior Associate at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in the assurance and business advisory practice, working primarily with technology companies and venture capital funds, including VIA.
He is a Certified Public Accountant and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Wagner College.
joined VIA in 2011 as a Manager of Finance and is a member of the finance and accounting team, contributing at various levels of the Firm’s accounting needs. 

Previously, Joe was a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers in their tax practice, working primarily with privately held companies, high net worth individuals, and private equity funds, including VIA.  Prior to that, he worked as a Senior Associate in the assurance and business advisory practice, working primarily with technology and communication companies.

Joe received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Montclair State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Matthew D. Burns MATTHEW D. BURNS
Manager of Administration, joined VIA in 2007 and supports the Firm in a variety of capacities including administrative and technical support, communications, and database management.

He is a former U.S. Marine with a diverse 20+ year management and marketing background in computer systems technology, office administration, and real estate. Matthew possesses a thorough knowledge of computer operating systems, computer network systems, database development and maintenance, desktop publishing, and graphic design.

Matthew is both a Notary Public for the State of New Jersey and a licensed Real Estate Agent.

Matthew D. Burns AMY E. ZENGO
Director of Community, joined VIA in 2014 and works closely with the funds’ managers, limited partners, and prospective members of the VIA family. Amy develops efficient, effective and sustainable initiatives that build VIA’s brand in the venture capital ecosystem. In addition, she shares responsibility for management of our fundraising life-cycles and due diligence efforts.
Previously, Amy worked with Atlas Venture (now known as Accomplice) where for eight years she was an operations member of their technology investment team in Boston. Prior to her tenure with Atlas, she was a Project Analyst in Equity Trading with Wellington Management Company and a Client Analyst with Goldman Sachs & Co. She brings an insider’s depth and breadth of knowledge in early stage venture capital funds, their portfolio companies and investors, often translating challenges and questions into opportunities for problem-solving and innovation.
Matthew D. Burns SHAWN SMITH
Financial Analyst, joined VIA in 2016 and supports the Firm with its accounting and bookkeeping needs as well as underlying portfolio company tracking.
Previously, Shawn worked as a Senior Associate at Richard D. Smith & Co, Inc. where he projected future sales growth, cash flow, and marketing needs for the firm. Prior to that, he served as a Network Administrator for the County of Bergen. He served as a U.S. Naval Officer for over eight years and is a decorated veteran of the Persian Gulf War. His naval duties included service as an Operations/Training Officer. He received bachelors’ degrees in Finance and Naval Science from Villanova University. He is a member of VFW in Basking Ridge, NJ.
